Environmental responsibility is an integral part of Lufthansa’s corporate culture and one of its main concerns. The airline was once again honoured for its leading role in June and named as the ‘Quietest Overall Airline’ by San Francisco International Airport. The award is part of the airport’s ‘Fly Quiet Program’. The roundtable initiative encourages airlines to fly in to and out of San Francisco Airport as quietly as possible. Lufthansa was praised in particular for its on-going efforts to reduce noise emissions, among other measures. Lufthansa is the first airline in the world to have equipped its Airbus A320-family short- and medium-haul aircraft with noise-reducing vortex generators on the underside of the wings. In early 2017 the new Airbus A350, one of the most environmentally friendly long-haul aircraft, will enter service from Munich.
