City of the month: Singapore

Singapore, off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, is one of Asia’s fastest-growing economic powers. The city’s cultural landmark is the Merlion, a mythical creature with a lion’s head and the body of a fish. A port as well as a banking and financial center, the city weathers all crises and remains as attractive as ever to developers and investors. Singapore is proud of its prosperity: Architectural marvels such as the hotel and casino complex Marina Bay Sands, restored colonial buildings like the National Museum and luxury leisure spots like Sentosa Island delight some 16 million visitors each year. Recently, Singapore has successfully brought back the appeal of its old town quarters: Keong Saik Road and the hip neighbourhood Tiong Bahru show the city at its most relaxed.
