Increasingly, modern airports are attracting visitors with unique experiences and buildings designed by top international architects. It’s been many years since airports were purely functional buildings for airline passengers. Today it’s all about prestige. For example, visitors can wander through a rainforest, surf on artificial waves or drink beer brewed directly on the premises. Pioneers of this approach are the Asian hubs such as Singapore-Changi and Seoul-Incheon where you can improve your handicap on the in-house golf course. But other cities are also upgrading: in Mexico City an airport is under construction that will set trends for airports of the future. And why? Because nowadays passengers expect more from an airport than the most efficient departures and arrivals.
